FAIL: Kia Engineers Lock Keys Inside Prototype

It’s been quite a long time since I’ve been able to post an automotive fail to the site, but thanks to some of Kia’s finest that’s about to change.

Kia’s engineers were out and about in the desert testing their new full-size flagship sedan called the Quoris. During the hardcore heat testing stage, one of the engineers locked the keys in the car. This happens every day to some unfortunate soul so no big deal right? Well unfortunately for Kia, the automotive equivilant of the paparazzi was out in full swing to document the embarrassing mishap.

The engineers tried everything from a screwdriver, to a wire hook, to a crowbar in a desperate attempt to regain access to the prototype. Eventually one of the methods worked, but not before KGP Photography was able to post evidence of the hilarious mistake all over the web.

The good thing to come from all this is it’s very likely that Kia will now try to incorporate some sort of telematic system that can have all the doors unlocked remotely should this very thing happen, not unlike GM’s Onstar system or Hyundai’s BlueLink system.

It’s okay, we’ve all been there, Kia. Well, I haven’t, but apparently lots of other people have. And as they say, any press is good press so the Quoris is already well on its way to many-a-google search as a result, I’d say.
