MINI Forced To Lower Fuel Its Efficiency Numbers

Well it seems Hyundai and Kia aren’t the only ones in trouble for perhaps exaggerating the fuel consumption results of its models.

Mini was recently called out by the EPA after an audit an joint re-testing of Mini’s 2015 3-door with the 1.5 litre engine and the 3-door S with the 2.0 litre engine both with either the manual transmission or the semi-automatic. The difference in ratings is MINI-mal (heh, get it?) comprising of just one or two miles per gallon, however the big change will come with the S’ highway consumption figure which was originally rated at 38 mpg (6.2 L/100 kms) but now has dropped four miles per gallon to 34 mpg (6.9 L/100 kms).

Interestingly enough, Mini actually delayed the launch of the 2015 Mini Cooper because they needed extra time to get the fuel consumption numbers right. That was obviously time well spent.

Expect an official EPA rating shortly.
