If you saw this sign, would you do a double take? Of course you would. You would assume that your eyes were playing tricks on you and that there really wasn’t a woman with high heels, big breasts and a purse on a sign with the words “Attenzione Prostitute” underneath.
Well it isn’t a joke, it’s a real sign that was spotted in Treviso, Italy. Even though our Italian isn’t quite up to snub, it’s safe to say that it translates into “attention prostitute” which begs the question: what the hell does that even mean?
Dino Venzino not only has a cool name, but also wondered the same thing.
“I couldn’t believe it…I just couldn’t work out what it was for,” he said. “Does it mean I have to look out for prostitutes crossing or that they are available around here?”
Our sleuthing skills have helped us to discover that up until 2008, prostitution was actually legal in Italy. However a new bill has been recently introduced to outlaw prostitution which got the go ahead from the Italian Cabinet. All that’s left is that the Italian Parliament vote on the matter.
Therefore, as funny as it would be, the sign likely isn’t saying that prostitutes are readily available in the area should you be looking. It wouldn’t make sense to put up a sign, only to have to take it down soon after if the law gets passed (unless if they’re banking on the law not passing). But ‘prostitute crossing’, while equally hilarious, doesn’t quite make any sense either.
