Honda Civic Hatchback Returning To Canada

By Kevin Harrison

It’s been nearly 10 years since Honda offered the popular Civic with as a hatchback, but it will be coming back to Canada.

About 50,000 of the once-forbidden fruit will make their way to North American shores from Swinden, U.K., where the plant is capable of producing 250,000 per year.

The move allows Honda to finally compete in the compact hatchback market where currently the Subaru Impreza, Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf play.

No word yet on when exactly you’ll be able to order one and engine specs and trim levels would only be educated guesses at this point, but with this move it’s also possible that the performance laden Civic Type-R with 350 horses could also make itself available as well giving the Ford Focus RS and the Volkswagen Golf R a run for their money.

What do you think about the return of the Civic hatchback? Does it make sense, or does Honda cover it adequately enough with the Fit?
