  • Porsche “Cajun” Is a Go

Posted on March 16th, 2011 admin No comments

Rumours of Porsche building a smaller version of the Cayenne SUV (pictured above) have been flying around the internets for quite some time now and today Porsche officially confirmed production. Despite cries of blasphemy from Porsche purists, the Cayenne has been quite the success story for Porsche and has proven that it can hold its own with the rest of the Porsche family. So it makes sense that Porsche is willing to bank on a similar kind of success with a baby Cayenne.

For now the lil’ Cayenne will be dubbed the “Cajun” and let’s hope that idea dies off quite soon. Doesn’t that sound just as ridiculous as Cayenne? Maybe even more ridiculous?

Anyway, the Cajun is expected to be built alongside the Cayenne and the Panamera and is expected to create 1,000 more jobs at the plant.

Details beyond that are scarce at the moment, but production is slated to start near the end of this year.

  • I Can’t Lie – This Looks Good

The idea of a lowered two door Cayenne is stupid right? I mean why not just get a 911 if you want a quick coupe from Porsche? Normally I would rip into something like this, but damn does it ever look good.

This is the Merdad Porsche 902 and in addition to losing the rear doors, it is also rumoured to come with 750 horsepower (!) which is good enough for a 0-100 sprint in 4.4 seconds.

Considering the Cayenne can actually hang with a 911 around the track, I assume this modded version will do even better. Consider me intrigued. No word yet on what this beast will cost, but you can be assured that it will be in the six figure range.

  • Porsche Shootout: 911 Carrera 4 S vs. Cayenne Turbo

Posted on July 16th, 2010 admin 1 comment

Even though the Cayenne has long been criticized by Porsche fans for not being a true sports car, it has proved again and again that it can definitely hang with the rest of the Porsche family.

The new Cayenne will be out soon and Porsche has promised it to be even better than the last. But really, every car company says that about their product, don’t they? Well Porsche says the Turbo version is so good, that it has an identical 0-100 time as the 911 Carrera 4 S and could even give it a run for its money on the track.

To find out if that is just blatant PR or the shocking truth, Autocar took both out to find out for themselves.

The results, I admit, are quick astonishing.

    Meet the facelifted Cayenne.

This new Cayenne has Panamera-esque headlights, a reworked front facia, new LED tail lights and an updated interior.

There will be lots of flavours to choose from: A V6, a Cayenne S, a Cayenne Turbo and an all new Cayenne Hybrid. Since there’s no mention of the diesel version, we’re guessing it got the axe, which is unfortunate.

The Hybrid will use a supercharged version of the 3.0 litre V6 making 333 horsepower along with a 47 horsepower electric motor. Porsche claims V8 performance with V6 fuel economy with this set up.

The Turbo will get a twin-turbo V8 producing 500 horses, the Cayenne S will get a V8 making 400 horses and the V6 will be good enough to produce 300 horsepower.

Porsche has managed to knock off 400 pounds from the already porkly Cayenne and is claiming fuel savings of up to 23% as a result. In turn, CO2 levels also get reduced to around 193 g/km for the hybrid.

The new Cayenne is expected to go on sale in June of this year.
