Volvo S60 Polestar Concept Hits the Net With 508 Horses

Volvo is certainly starting to take its relationship with polestar from casually dating to going steady. First they produced the C30 Polstar concept and now they’re having a go at the S60.

Some new shots and details have hit the net, not least of which is the announcement that the S60 Polestar concept produced a whopping 508 horsepower and 424 pound feet of torque. That power comes from a tuned inline six that is Garret turbocharged.

In my admittedly gushing review of the S60 R-design, I was so taken with it that I was prepared to buy one. The only thing that stopped me was a lack of a manual transmission. And I said if Volvo truly wishes to me mentioned among the likes of the BMW 335i and Audi S4 then they need to offer it with a manual transmission. Well, Volvo must’ve read my review and listened to my sounds advice (that’s what I like to tell myself, anyway) and they have put in a six-speed manual specially designed to be stronger than typical manuals.

A revised version of the Haldex AWD system is also present to help out with handling and of course keeping all that horsepower to the pavement, but the S60 Polestar concept is actually wider as well. It’s a little less than an inch wider in the front and close to two inches wider in the back.

Braking comes courtesy of Brembo and they are surrounded by 19 inch wheels. According to Polestar, the S60 Polestar concept can do the 0-100 run in just 3.9 seconds.

The troubling part about all this is the word ‘concept’ in the name. As of now, there doesn’t seem to be any indication as to whether Volvo will actually put it into production. The specs on paper definitely make it seem like it could wipe the floor with the BMW M3 and even hang with the M5. Since there has been no official announcement of Polestar being Volvo’s official in house tuner, it’s still up in the air as to whether or not this will see showroom floors.

All I can say is, with the bump in power, wider track, upgraded AWD and, finally, the addition of the right transmission (not to mention stunning looks to boot), all the ingredients are present for ultimate driving bliss. Do it, Volvo! Produce this thing ASAP!
