Top Gear Offends More Groups of People

If you saw this week’s past episode, you would’ve seen Jezza, Hamster and Captain slow try to prove that British cars are better than Australian offerings by taking on the Top Gear Australia presenters in a number of challenges, the Ferrari 599 GTO being reined in at the track by the Stig and all three presenters taking stereotypical shots at the country of Mexico.

During the news segment, they were discussing a new supercar from Mexico called the Mastretta MXT. All three blokes took shots at both the car and the country.

James called the car “the tortilla” because he couldn’t be bothered to remember what the actual name of the car was.

Richard, on the other hand, took things way further as he wondered how a car from a certain country reflects on its people. As such he went on to ask why anyone would want a car Mexico because:

“Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat.”

And lastly, Jeremy added insult to injury by joking that his co-presenters wouldn’t receive any complaints from the Mexican ambassador because he would likely be asleep and wouldn’t be watching. It seems that he was not, however.

He apparently wrote a letter to the BBC accusing the Top Gear presenters as being vulgar, bigoted, humiliating and perpetrators of xenophobia. The BBC has yet to respond.

This certainly isn’t the first time the presenters have offended a group of people and it probably won’t be the last. Just a few episodes ago they offended both Christians and Muslims in the same episode by having a baby Stig born in the manger and dressing up in full burkas imitating Muslim women.

Do you think the presenters went too far in their remarks on Mexico?
