GM has announced that they are officially recalling 13,937 Chevrolet Volts in Canada from model years 2011-2013 due to possible carbon monoxide buildup.
The fear is that if a driver forgets to shut off the vehicle and it is left running for an extended period of time, carbon monoxide could build causing harm.
In a statement, GM said they are aware of at least two incidents where injuries due to carbon monoxide exposure were related to carbon monoxide build up in the affected vehicles.
“If the gas engine runs for a long period of time within an enclosed space, such as a garage, carbon monoxide could build up,” GM said.
GM is fitting all Trax, Encores and Volts with a new software that will add a time limit as to how long the vehicles can be left on.
