Buick Verano To Become Turbocharged, Six-Speed Manual Available

The newest, yet probably the most forgotten member of the Buick family is going to get getting some attention that will attract some performance enthusiasts.

The smallest Buick will be getting a turbo, says GM. It will make 250 horsepower and 260 pound feet of torque at just 2,000 RPM from GM’s infamous 2.0 lire ecotec inline four. 0-100 is exptected to be around 6.2 seconds putting it smack dab in the territory of the Volkswagen GLI, Lexus IS 250 and the new Acura ILX. But the best part? Buick is offering an optional six-speed manual transmission for some true driving pleasure.

The Verano turbo may cause some troubles for its bigger brother, the Regal GS, which is also turbocharged with a six-speed manual avaible. The Regal GS now makes just 20 more horses. With the Verano expected to be cheaper to boot, GM will likely have to add a power boost to the Regal GS in order to justify the price difference.

Expect the Verano turbo to bow in the fall of this year.
