Buick to Bring Back Grand National & Other Legendary Nameplates

It’s been mentioned to death: Buicks are for seniors, right? Well aside from the fact that they now offer more appealing cars to gear heads with the Verano Turbo and Regal GS, the fact of the matter is, Buicks haven’t always been about cushy luxury barges. The Grand National name will return along with the GNX and T-Type nameplates according to Edmunds.com. And all three are promising to deliver big horsepower.

All three are also expected to be sedans based on the new Alpha platform that the Cadillac ATS uses. The T-Type and Grand National will share suspension components and, true to history, the GNX will be offered in black only.

The GNX is also expected to get a V8 churning out over 400 horsepower will the -Type and Grand National will get a turbocharged 3.6 litre V6 putting it somewhere in the respectable 350 horsepower range. A six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic is rumoured for all three hot Buicks.

If you’re a youngin’ and have no idea about these cars, Google them because they were probably among the quickest vehicles to buy back in the 80’s. They couldn’t take a corner, but they sure could give an impressive showing on the straightaways.

Expect all three sedans to bow in late 2014.
