Volkswagen to Bring Polo to North America

Ever wonder why, with Canada’s love of subcompact cars, Volkswagen (who isn’t shy about wanting world domination) hasn’t offered anything in the segment yet?

Well wonder no longer. The German automaker is apparently taking steps to bring their rather successful Polo to our shores along with a crossover version.

According to reports, Volkswagen is developing the next generation Polo specifically to meet the new CAFE standards, which means it would then be allowed to sell the Polo in Canada.

Speculation has been rising on whether or not Volkswagen will offer a TDI engine in the North American Polo, but they do, it would likely be a three cylinder, which would likely be the top trim level engine. Other technologies from more premium brands could find their way onto the Polo such as luxury appointments and driver aids.

The next generation Polo could come as early as late next year as a 2015 model.
