Oh Hi: 2014 Chevrolet Impala

So this is the next generation Chevrolet Impala. The design mixes a decent amount of conservative styling with modern styling which is probably a good idea considering the Impala definitely needs to branch out a bit if it wants to compete with the likes of the Chyrsler 300, Ford Taurus and Toyota Avalon, yet retain its loyal customer base of…taxi drivers? Car rental companies? Seniors? I’m not quite sure who it is that’s buying the current generation Impala, but Chevrolet claims it to be pretty popular despite being introduced way back in 2005. Indeed, it was in the top 10 best seller list. And I suppose that’s a good thing considering the Impala is built here in Canada and this new version will continue to be built here.

The front end is conventional and doesn’t include the Chevy corporate bar that splits the grille which is a bit of a surprise. The side profile is fairly sleek illuding to a wide-body design and those large 20 inch wheels are certainly eye-catching.

The interior is much improved over the current generation as it includes a much nicer layout, and a couple of info screens to help keep the Impala included in this century. The nice looking bucket seats are appreciated as well.

Power comes from a 2.4 litre four cylinder with GM’s e-Assist feature which produces 182 horsepower and 172 pound foot torque. The mid-range Impala will get a 2.5 litre four which produces 192 horsepower and 187 pound foot torque. , while the range topping engine will be a 3.6 litre V6 making 303 horses and 264 torques mated to a six speed automatic. No word yet on if GM plans on resurrected the iconic SS badge for this generation Impala.

Hit the jump for an interior shot. What do you think of that new Impala?

  1. Finally a chevy without that awful corporate steering wheel that ruins the look of all their interiors…and it’s even uglier. Anytime you drive the thing is in your face, how can they get the styling so wrong? And that microwave blue lighting…still can’t get the little things right..
