Oh Hi: 2013 Honda Accord

Well here it is. The all-new Honda Accord.

“This car is the most sculpted and the most dynamic Accord yet,” said the assistant vice president of product planning for Honda USA. “Following Honda’s long-held philosophy of ‘man maximum, machine minimum.'”

Don’t really see what she’s talking about? Me neither. While the design is far from being bland or ugly, I don’t think it could be defined as “sculpted” even though it may be true that it’s the most sculpted Accord ever. But that just means that Accords before it weren’t terribly innovative in terms of design and unfortunately I have to say that this is true for this generation Accord as well. For instance the rear of the sedan (which can be seen after the jump) looks a lot like the rear of the first generation Hyundai Genesis. And those alloys are a little too familiar looking as is the overall shape. Still, it’s much better than just tacking on some reflector strips like the did the last time they updated the Accord.

With all that said, Honda should be commended for making more of a valiant effort in their supposed ‘man over machine philosophy’ because this new Accord is actually smaller all while achieving more cargo room and interior room. Since Toyota redesigned their Camry without making it bigger at the request of its loyal fanbase, Honda took the same direction and took it even a bit further by making it smaller.

But perhaps more importantly is the addition of new powertrains under the hood. Honda is using their ‘Earth Dreams’ engines which is a base 2.4  litre 4-cylinder direct injection engine and a 3.5 litre V6, also direct injected. There are no power numbers or fuel efficiency numbers just yet but expect both to exceed what the current Accord is currently rated at.

The new Accord will make its way to dealerships this fall so expect more detailed info to come in the near future. In the meantime, check out some more pics of the sedan and coupe after the jump.
